Series on Exodus

The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. (Psalm 98:2) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)

News of the Congregation

The Edinburgh Free Church Continuing congregation has moved from its present place of worship to a new building on Morningside Road. The new building is to be found at the junction of Morningside Road and Newbattle Terrace, and is the building owned by Napier University. You are most welcome to come and join in worship with us.

The times of our services on the Lord's Day have not changed, but our Prayer Meeting has changed from Wednesday to Thursday evening. You will find a map of where we are by clicking the link below.

The new building in which we are now worshipping was originally opened by the renowned Free Church leader of the 19th century, Thomas Chalmers. It has in recent years been owned and used by Napier University.

Quote For the Week

" Who will have all men to be saved, and come unto the knowledge of the truth"

[1 Timothy 2:4]

"Hence we see the childish folly of those who represent this passage to be opposed to predestination. 'If God' say they, 'wishes all men indiscriminately to be saved, it is false that some are predestined by his eternal purpose to salvation, and others to perdition.' They might have had some ground for saying this, if Paul were speaking here about individual men; although even then we should not have wanted the means of replying to their argument..But I say nothing on that subject as it has nothing to do with this passage...for the Apostle simply means, that there is no people and no rank in the world that is excluded from salvation; because God wishes that the gospel should be proclaimed to all without exception.

All Welcome

If you at present do not attend church, are interested in learning more about the Gospel, or would just like either the minister or an elder from the church to give you a visit, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please note that everyone and anyone is welcome to come to our services - young or old, rich or poor. Our services are simple in style, with the preaching of the Gospel having a primary place in the worship. We use a precentor (one who sings and leads the praise) to lead the singing of the Psalms, as was the practice in the Church of Scotland at the time of the Reformation and for some years after. The ministry is maintained through the free-will offering of our people.

Who Are We?

There are many very important documents available to the Church today. So far as the Free Church of Scotland Continuing is concerned, the Word of God holds the primary place in regards doctrine, worship, practice and discipline. Yet, we must be able to indicate to the wider world what we believe the Bible to teach. For example, Peter was asked to make a specific confession of who he thought Christ was (Matthew 16:15-16). Peter made his confession: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God". So today, the Free Church of Scotland Continuing makes its own confession. The Westminster Confession of Faith is our confessional standard. You will find within this website the various documents that will explain what we as a denomination believe. These documents are free to download. All office-bearers are required on induction to office to affirm that the Confession of Faith is a confession of his own personal faith.

A Message

Every week the minister of the congregation, the Rev. James I. Gracie, produces a News-sheet for the congregation. The News-sheet is not only a vehicle to inform the congregation of news in the Church, but opportunity is often taken to give a 'Minister's Messsage' which addresses subjects of general and Christian interest. Some of these articles appear on this website from time to time.

The preaching of the Gospel is, of course, our main business. We want as many people as possible to hear the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our services are recorded and can be listened to or downloaded free of charge. We invite you to listen to the sermons at your leisure.
